Chicken wings.  They’re delicious, but I’m willing to bet you think they’re a sinful, deep-fried artery-clogging reeeaaallly unhealthy dish, am I right?  It’s a “naughty” food for many, that’s for sure, often reserved for special occasions only. Game Day, BBQs, Pizza Night, etc.

Yeah, okay, if they’re battered, deep fried, tossed in sauce, and/or served with blue cheese dressing, I can see how you might be right.  

I was honestly never a wing person myself.  I could take it or leave it. I would seriously go to a wing place and order pizza, that’s how uninterested I was in actually eating one.  Oh, wait, except the Chinese take-out wings – omg, those wings are sooooo good.

My husband and daughter on the other hand, loooove them.  So one day I was grocery shopping, stopped at the meat section, decided to grab a pack of raw chicken wings (raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones), without having a clue what I was actually going to do with them.  Yes, I was 37, and had never actually made wings before. I mean, I made roasted whole chicken WITH wings on them numerous times, but never as a separate dish.

*shrugs* what can I say, I was never into them

Anyways, I was on a mission to create a healthier alternative that everyone would still love.  

I figured, why not just add a bunch of spices, throw them in the oven, and see what happens?  If nobody likes it, well, then it will be just another meal that everyone complains about lol.  

It’s rare that I get it right the first time.  Very. Rare. You know how many super chewy roasts I’ve made before they started tasting somewhat good?  Do you know how many years it took me to master pancakes after making numerous batches of wheat-based hockey pucks?  Yeah, things don’t come out for me the first time.

But damnnnn, these oven-roasted wings…. They were goooood.

They were crispy, full of flavour and were devoured in minutes.

So, let’s circle back to the whole “chicken wings being unhealthy” stuff we were talking about before.  I can pull up numerous health and fitness blogs and articles telling you that wings are a huge no-no

But what they all fail to mention to their readers is that there are different ways to prepare them.  They don’t have to be battered, deep fried, and slathered with sauce.

If I told you I ate chicken drumsticks three times this week for dinner, you’d think that was okay right?  What if I said I had wings three times this week for dinner? Yeah, you’d think I was at the dinner table suffering from heartburn and meat sweats.

But really, here’s the difference:

Not so different, huh?  

 Wings are only about 50 calories more and another 5 grams of fat compared to drumsticks.  Trust me, that’s peanuts!  And take a look at the protein content – wings are actually higher in protein.  

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get to the recipe!  It’s simple, tasty, and pretty versatile – feel free to add other spices if you prefer!  Hope you enjoy!



  • 2 lbs chicken wings
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425F

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix salt, garlic powder, paprika, parsley and black pepper

Step 3

Pat wings dry with a paper towel (important step for crispy skin)

Step 4

Pour olive oil over wings and mix 

Step 5

Add spices and toss with wings until combined

Step 6

Arrange on parchement paper and bake for 40 minutes or until desired crispiness
